Battles of the mind! The mind can really play tricks on you if you don't get control over your thought life. We are what we think about and thoughts eventually turn into action. You can watch that commercial on television glamorizing T.G.I.'s Barbecue Ribs. If you think about it long enough, you end up going to the Restaurant and ordering those famous yummy ribs. They are so good I know for sure.
If you are trying to watch your weight, then it's not a good idea to give into the temptations that are everywhere on the Television. Whatever your weakness is it is bound to show up in some form and cause you to figure out whether or not that you are going to yield to the temptation or practice self control.
The mind is the set of thinking faculties including cognitive aspects such as consciousness, imagination, perception, thinking, judgement, language and memory, as well as non-cognitive aspects such as emotion.
Our Emotional Part of our brain can play Tricks on you if you aren't careful. When we are under any form of stress, anxiety, or even a happy state of mind, one can often celebrate our feelings through the form of an action of whatever we are tempted to do. Remember, it started in your mind.
Going out to buy that nice outfit that you didn't need to fill that emotion or to eat that plate of ribs even though you might not even be hungry is a quick fix for usually an underlying problem of some other sort,which had nothing to do with what you purchased at all.
This also goes into Addictions which I will discuss in another Blog. Just remember that we have to practice self control in order to conquer the demon of temptations.
